AMERICAN DREAMS
(LOST AND FOUND)

Benning | 1984 | US | 55m
“To Save and Project”
*Intro by Austrian Film Museum Director Alexander Horwath
7:00 at MoMA

“A highlight in the work of experimental filmmaker James Benning, in which he melts images, sounds and writing, and combines baseball, history and pop culture. In American Dreams (Lost and Found), you see memorabilia of baseball legend Hank Aaron, read the hand-written diary of the man who attempted to assassinate presidential candidate George Wallace in 1972, and hear pop songs from the 1950s to the 1970s. It’s a meditation on the American Dream far, far away from the usual clichés and, like all of Benning’s work, a challenging, but richly rewarding experience.”
