“For better or worse, Lieberman’s films are unforgettable. What they fail to fully achieve technically or narratively, they make up for in unshakably creepy atmosphere and bizarre imagery… The flimsiest premise… belongs to Lieberman’s third theatrical feature, Just Before Dawn. Inspired by Deliverance, it’s about a pair of big, oafish, inbred twins who live in the mountains with their family and randomly kill hikers. But the most striking thing about this film is Dean and Joel King’s lovely cinematography, which does a wonderful job of capturing the lush beauty of the natural setting and the warm, glowing ambiance of the campfires at night.”
