GOODBYE, DRAGON INN
Tsai | 2003 | Taiwan | 82m
“Film After Film”
7:00 at MOMI

“[This] nearly wordless film, set during a repertory showing of King Hu’s classic 1966 Dragon Inn, is at once an elegy for the communal experience of cinema-going and another quintessentially Tsai portrait of loneliness and isolation… It isn’t a story so much as an experience, and the abstract quality that may frustrate some viewers will enchant others. While figures pass by in the dark, making fleeting contact (if any), the emotional connection between [the chracters] and King Hu’s film is a tribute to the spell cast on those few who can lose themselves in the screen magic, alone yet connected in the dark.”
Sean Axmaker, Seattle Post-Intelligencer
