“Swoon: 20th Anniversary”
8:00 at BAM

“In 1992, Tom Kalin, aged 30, released a movie called Swoon. If you want to find it today, you need to look in the Gay & Lesbian / Experimental sections of your video store, but once you’ve seen Swoon you may ask why it couldn’t be under Important Films of the 1990s… Looking at Swoon again, I saw an ecstatic, go-for-broke artistic ferocity in the photography – you know that Kalin believed in movie art… When Swoon was made, a daring, gay film [could] expect it to be seen by anybody. We have to regain the vital ground on which all films are potentially for everyone.”
David Thomson, The Guardian
